'The Sad Story of Lefty and Ned' Poem Re-make
65There were two crooks called lefty and Ned,
Who had to steal for their daily bread,
But now their bodies are underground,
Left to rot until they’re found
They decided to steal a car,
Whilst the owner was drinking in a bar,
But now their bodies are underground,
Left to rot until they’re found
They slunk about the dark car park,
Searching for a likely mark,
But now their bodies are underground,
Left to rot until they’re found
A brand new beamer caught their eye,
Parked in a corner where none could spy,
But now their bodies are underground,
Left to rot until they’re found
There was no harm in stealing a look,
A wire and a nudge is all it took,
But now their bodies are underground,
Left to rot until they’re found
The seats were soft, the interior rich,
And Ned’s driving hands began to itch
But now their bodies are underground,
Left to rot until they’re found
Hot wiring the ignition was easy to do,
And out the car park they fairly flew,
But now their bodies are underground,
Left to rot until they’re found
Shooting the lights at sixty-five,
Lefty shouted “My turn to drive”
But now their bodies are underground,
Left to rot until they’re found
Ned struggled to keep control on the bend,
As he wrestled the wheel away from his friend,
But now their bodies are underground,
Left to rot until they’re found
The night was frosty, the road was cold,
As metal and rubber lost their hold,
But now their bodies are underground,
Left to rot until they’re found
The car sank swiftly out of sight,
As the freezing lake enveloped all light,
But now their bodies are underground,
Left to rot until they’re found
And so the moral crime never pays,
You best take note of this worthy phrase,
But now their bodies are underground,
Left to rot until they’re found
